AOC Invites Megan Rapinoe to Skip the White House
Soccer star Megan Rapinoe was blunt when a reporter asked her feelings on visiting the White House if the U.S. women's soccer team won the FIFA Women's World Cup: "I'm not going to the fucking White House." On Thursday, Rapinoe apologized for her comments, but, specifically, for dropping an f-bomb only. At a news conference, she said, "I stand by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House, with the exception of the expletive. My mom will be very upset about that."
Donald Trump, meanwhile, wanted to tell the world how not upset about it he was. The president rarely misses an opportunity to out-petty someone, like when he publicly cancelled the Golden State Warriors' championship White House visit after Steph Curry said he wouldn't go. In response to Rapinoe's preemptive refusal, Trump tweeted, "I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!" went on a strange tear and also went on a strange rant about the NBA. But, other elected officials are being more supportive. On Friday, New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, "It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like. 🇺🇸"
Rapinoe fired back, "Consider it done."Massachusetts congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, meanwhile, chimed in that she'd bring the red velvet cake, which would, officially speaking, make it a party.
The U.S. women's team will face off against England in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
