Three new Fairview home dedications
Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury dedicated three new homes in the Willow Crest subdivision in Fairview on June 15 following the hard work of more than 600 volunteers who donated over 4,500 hours to help build the homes, according to a press release.
Volunteers have contributed wood work, landscaping and much more over the last three months to build the homes located off Horn Tavern Rd in Fairview.
The $70,000 needed for each home build was funded through local sponsors.
Schneider Electric, Wells Fargo, Gresham Smith, Fifth Third Bank, First Farmers Bank, and Publix Supermarket Charities contributed toward the home for Kim Wilson, a native of Franklin and a graduate of Centennial High School. Wilson works as a client services representative for Tom James and has lived her entire life in Williamson County.
“I have so many good memories growing up in Williamson County and I want those same kind of memories for my daughter,” Wilson said. “It is not easy with the rising costs of housing, but I very much want to be near my family. I was ecstatic when I heard about the opportunity to purchase a home through Habitat’s program.”
Wilson has a habitat neighbor in Maria Herrera. Herrera’s home was HFHWM’s 10th Annual Women Build home and brought together sponsors Middle TN Electric, Westhaven Foundation, Lightning 100, UL, Schneider Electric, and volunteers who each raised $250 to participate in the build to fund her home.
Herrera emigrated from Colombia to New Jersey 16 years ago, leaving behind a difficult marriage. In 2005, Maria; her mother, Estella; and her son Abraham relocated to Middle Tennessee to be near her sister.
“It was pretty rough in New Jersey,” Herrera said. “There was a lot of gang activity, and I worried all the time about my son. I love living somewhere safe, but it has been tough to make ends meet in Williamson County. My mother, son, and I live in a two-bedroom apartment, so I share my bedroom with my son. I can’t wait to move into our new home, and Abraham is ecstatic about having a room of his own.”
Across the street from Herrera, the Alejandro family home was sponsored by Holy Family Catholic Church, First Baptist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Saint Matthew Catholic Church during the 2019 Spring Faith Build.
Marco Alejandro, who injured his back a few years ago, was formerly a correctional officer with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department and his wife, Jennifer, is a vet tech at Goose Creek Pet Hospital. The Alejandro boys are sports fanatics. Eleven-year-old Dalton has played hockey since he was four.
“God put hockey in my heart,” says Dalton. His seven-year-old brother Jacob plays soccer, baseball, and runs cross-country. The boys are so excited that they will have a yard where they can practice their sports daily.
“We are blessed to have this opportunity,” Marco remarks. “We can’t wait to purchase and move in to our new home. We do not take any of it for granted.”
Habitat Williamson-Maury will sell the homes with an affordable mortgage to all three families, according to Habitat representatives. The families will close on and move into their homes by the end of the month.
Over the next few years, HFHWM will build 26 homes in the Willow Crest subdivision. Each craftsman-style home has three to five bedrooms, with square footage between 1,100 and 1,500 square feet, according to the Habitat press release.
