Seamer Fisher to leave Yorkshire at end of season - 2 minutes read

England seam bowler Matthew Fisher will leave Yorkshire when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Fisher, who has one Test cap, has taken 126 wickets at an average of 28.27 in 41 first-class matches for Yorkshire since his debut in 2015.

The 26-year-old is reportedly set to join Surrey, external, who are chasing a third consecutive County Championship title this year.

“Playing for and being capped by Yorkshire has been the biggest honour in my life," said Fisher, who was born in York.

"To have represented the club for over 10 years has given me and my family immense pride."

Fisher has battled injuries throughout his career, which have limited his appearances in first-class and white-ball cricket.

He made his sole England appearance in the drawn second Test against West Indies in Barbados in March 2022, taking match figures of 1-71.

Fisher was subsequently sidelined with a stress fracture of his back, but returned to take 28 wickets in nine matches in 2023 and was awarded an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) development contract for fast bowlers in October.

He has not played for Yorkshire's first XI since May because of an ankle injury, but is now available.

Yorkshire chief executive Stephen Vaughan wished Fisher luck and said he "has developed into an exciting cricketer who has the potential to have a huge influence at the highest level of the game".
