Indian keeper batter Rishabh Pant has shared the bone-chilling thought that occurred to him following his road accident in December 2022.
The near fatal accident near Roorkee, Uttarakhand had left Pant with a ligament tear in his right knee and two cuts on his forehead and the 26-year-old has remained out of competitive cricket action since.
“First time in my life I felt like my time in this world is up. During the accident I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me. I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover, he said it would take 16-18 months. I knew I had to work hard to cut this recovery time,” Pant told Star Sports.
On the harrowing nature of Pant’s accident that recently his India and Delhi Capitals teammate Axar Patel had recently conceded, “Early morning I got a call from sister Pratima. She asked me when did I talk to Rishabh Pant last? I told her that I was about to talk to him last day but I did not. Pratima said that she needed Pant’s mother’s contact number as the player has met an accident. At the first time, I though he is gone.”
Pant has since underwent surgery in Mumbai and is expected to return to action again soon. Earlier in the month, he had a few glimpses of his recovery process on social media.
The keeper batter was also present at the Delhi Capitals table for the IPL 2024 Auction last year in Dubai and attended a DC training camp in November.
