Pune will host the second edition of the Indian Doctors Premier League (IDPL) from April 17 to April 21.

Spearheaded by Dr Sandeep Patil, pediatric neurologist and epileptologist, and Dr Sumit Agrawal, a renowned city MD physician and diabetologist, this unique initiative aims to promote fitness among health professionals while addressing pressing social issues such as global warming.

Building upon the success of its inaugural edition, which saw the Delhi Champion team clinch victory, IDPL 2024 promises a good display of cricketing prowess and camaraderie.

Sixteen teams representing various regions across India, including Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Kerala, will compete in a fiercely contested league format. The tournament venues include the iconic Poona Club, PYC Gymkhana, Legend Cricket Club and the Legend Cricket Academy in Mundhwa.

The Genobics Foundation, led by Dr. Patil and Dr. Agrawal, in collaboration with members of the Young Doctor League Foundation – comprising Dr. Amit Dravid, Dr. Nitin Patil, Dr. Deepak Mankari, Dr. Rahul Patil, Dr. Ankush Bhandari, and Dr. Vaibhav Dudhat – are involved in bringing this initiative to fruition.

Dr Patil emphasised the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle among doctors, citing cricket as an ideal avenue for physical activity. Dr Agrawal highlighted the tournament’s commitment towards environmental conservation by pledging to plant trees equivalent to the runs scored during the event, underscoring the organisers’ dedication for social responsibility and restoring the city’s green balance.
