Alex Rodriguez Drops Out of a Feud With Kylie Jenner Before It Really Got Started
Alex Rodriguez may be the Joe Biden of baseball, a one-man gaffe factory who became a media darling, at least for a time, thanks to a high-profile relationship with an even more beloved public figure. (Yes, Jennifer Lopez is the Barack Obama in this analogy.) And, like his embattled political double, Rodriguez can still sometimes put his foot in his mouth (though, granted, with much lower stakes). In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Rodriguez talked about the time he shared with Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala in May. “We had Kylie and Kendall. And we had an Asian gentleman from Rich Asians, the lead,” he said, likely referring to Henry Golding, who wore Versace that night like Rodriguez, Lopez, and Jenner. “Kylie was talking about Instagram and her lipstick, and how rich she is.”
Within a few hours, Jenner tweeted that this interaction didn’t occur. “Umm no i didn’t. We only spoke about Game of Thrones,” she wrote. And proving one other way he's not so much like Biden, Rodriguez knows that the earlier one cops a plea in the court of public opinion, the better. He tweeted that he must have been the one talking about Kylie’s lipsticks.
In this case, it’s likely that Jenner is in the right. She’s proven over 12 years on Keeping Up With the Kardashians that she can keep her ego mostly in check when speaking candidly. And she’s not the one calling herself a self-made billionaire, telling the New York Times in March, “If they’re just talking finances, technically, yes, I don’t have any inherited money,” she said. “But I have had a lot of help and a huge platform.”
But the perception of wealth might just be unavoidable when Jenner is decked in custom designer duds this opulent. To the camp-themed gala, Jenner wore a feather-laden lavender gown right out of the dreams of a person who watched some episodes of Dynasty on psychedelics. When you’re at the Met Gala and wearing enough diamonds to make Joan Collins plotz, who needs to do anything as gauche as actually talking about money?
