We Belong Together on Netflix Cast

Netflix knows its subscribers love a good psychological thriller. Yesterday, the streaming service debuted Secret Obsession, a new original movie starring Brenda Song in a role very different from her Disney Channel days. Now it’s added We Belong Together to its library, a 2018 made-for-TV erotic thriller that originally aired on BET, as the network’s first-ever original film.

Written, directed and produced by Chris Stokes—who is best known for the 2004 cult hit You Got Served—We Belong Togetheris the story of a college professor who gets seduced by a young, sexy student, only to realize that’s she’s unstable and obsessive. It is, essentially, Fatal Attraction. But instead of Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, the We Belong Togethercast features Draya Michele, Jessica Vanessa DeLeon, Charles Malik Whitfield, Ross Fleming, Brian White, Valarie Pettiford, and more.

Like most erotic thrillers, the appeal of We Belong Together really lies in the sex of it all. Given thatWe Belong Together was made to air on cable, it’s not quite as explicit as Fatal Attraction, but the film makes up for that by going all-in on the male gaze of its lead, Draya Michele, who plays the college student named Tracy. Michele, who is 34, is best known on-screen for her VH1 reality show Basketball Wives LA, where she was part of the freshman cast in 2011, and stayed through Season 4. She also had a small role in the 2016 romantic comedy, The Perfect Match, as well as the 2017 thriller, ‘Til Death Do Us Part, which was also directed by Stokes. Off-screen, she’s made a name for herself as a social media influencer and fashion designer. She has over 7 million followers on Instagram and launched her own swimwear line, Mint Swim.

Michele is the star power of the We Belong Together cast, but Charles Malik Whitfield, who plays the professor, is an established actor who was once nominated for an NAACP award for playing Otis Williams in the 1998  miniseries, The Temptations. There’s also Jessica Vanessa DeLeon, who played Biance in the 2018 film Street Dreams – Los Angeles. It might not be an Oscar-winner, but we can think of worse ways to spend a Friday night than with this thriller on Netflix.
