A top 100 basketball player by ESPN and a recent commit to the University of Iowa, Ava Jones' love for basketball is what brought her to Louisville from Kansas Tuesday for the annual Run 4 the Roses tournament before tragedy struck."She's got a whole bright future in front of her, so just keep praying that future continues on," said Dylan Evans, the owner and director of Jones’ AAU basketball team, Wheat State Elite.The 17-year-old high school senior to be, her parents and younger brother, were hit by a car near Market and Second Streets around 8 p.m.An arrest citation states, Michael Hurley, 33, struck them while they were on the sidewalk. Police say he admitted to taking hydrocodone and was, "so tired he could not make a turn."A witness says the scene appeared unreal."The next thing I see is bodies flying in the air," Sharon Donoho said. "I couldn’t' believe it, it was like a horror movie."The family was taken to UofL Hospital and Norton Children’s Hospital to be treated.According to Evans, the youngest victim, Creek, was treated and released. But, Ava, and her parents, Amy and Trey, are still fighting to recover. The teen was listed in serious, but stable condition, while her parents are both critical."All three of them are still in intensive care and just really need our prayers and support and hopefully everybody will be okay," Evans said.Hurley first appeared in court on Wednesday where he's facing several charges including four counts of first-degree assault, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of substances, and license to be in possession.Hurley kept his head down for the majority of the arraignment as the judge set his bond at $500,000 cash.
