Euro Championships Preview - 1 minute read
(by Steve Hopkins)
On Tuesday the best players in Europe will start group play in Warsaw for the Liebherr 2020 ITTF European Individual Championships. The entry list includes expected Olympic medal contenders – Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Liam Pitchford, and Mattias Falck will all be in the top 12 seeds in Tokyo. On the women’s side, Olympic medal contention may be sure as Sofia Polcanova is the top ranked European player and she will likely be seeded tenth in Tokyo. She and Petrissa Solja and Han Ying will all be competing this week in Warsaw.
The group play will begin on Tuesday the 22nd. There are 106 men and 95 women competing in Singles. Doubles events (men, women, mixed) will commence on Tuesday as well. By the end of the weekend, five events will have European champions – and the world will have a pretty good preview of medal contenders for Tokyo.
