Dusseldorf Masters IX: Dima Logs Third Title - Butterfly Table Tennis - 1 minute read
(by Steve Hopkins)
The 8th men’s Masters event concluded over the weekend. The winner was a familiar champion, Dimitrij Ovtcharov.
Dima cruised through the event logging a 4-1 win in the Quarterfinals, a 4-2 win in the Semifinals, and a 4-2 win over Franziska in the Final. The event went mostly as expected with four of the top five seeds reaching the Semifinals – and the top two seeds playing in the Final. The odd man out by seeding was USA’s Kanak Jha.
Kanak Jha was seeded third, but fell 4-2 to Sweden’s Anton Kallberg in the Quarterfinal. Jha outlasted Cedric Meissner 4-3 in the opening round. Kallberg won the last Masters event and Meissner is a promising young Germany player who has had solid results in past Masters Events.
The Dusseldorf Masters series have been held since mid-June. This is the ninth event overall (eight were men’s events and 1 was a female event).
