WTT Youth Star Contender: Stumper Doubles Up Titles - 2 minutes read
(by Steve Hopkins)
Kay Stumper, Germany’s 18 year old phenom, is the World’s top ranked junior. He entered the WTT Youth Star Contender in Wladyslawowo, Poland, and he did not disappoint.
Stumper opened in the Round of 16 with a 3-1 win over Redzimski, topped Poland’s Kulczycki 3-2, beat France’s Poret 3-1, and then beat France’s Lebrun in the Final. Sam Kulczycki is a familiar name for those following Ochsenhausen in the German league, as he is a teammate of Kanak Jha on the Ochsenhausen squad.
Stumper teamed with Daniel Rinderer in the U19 Doubles, and they dominated the finals with a 3-0 win over the Romanian pair of Movileanu and Ionescu. In fact, the only tight match in the draw was a 3-2 win over Ochsenhausen’s young Polish doubles team of Maciej Kubik and Sam Kulczycki.
The U15 Boys event was Romania over Romania with Churita topping Bujor 3-0. Those same two Romanian teamed up to dominate the U15 Boys Doubles event (winning 3-0 over the Polish pair of Sakowicz and Formela).
U19 Girls’ top seed, Elena Zaharia beat Russia’s Vlada Veronina in the Final 3-1. Zaharia teamed with Russia’s Abraamian to win the U19 Doubles event. Germany’s Annett Kaufmann upset Hana Goda 3-2 to win the U15 Girls’ event. Annett teamed with Romania’s Bianca Mei Rosu 3-1 to win the U15 Girls Doubles event.
