Backhand Block Technique by Ricardo Walther - 2 minutes read
(Intro and Loose Translation by Steve Hopkins)
This video was originally posted last week by Deutscher Tischtennis-Bund on their YouTube channel. The featured player is Ricardo Walther and the video explains proper technique for a backhand block. As it is in German, please see the quick translation below:
(Set 1): Body weight is on both forefeet | Slightly open to parallel foot position | Upper body stable and slightly bent forward
(Set 2): Elbow is fixed point | Hit tip points slightly upwards | Return hits to the height of the net in front of the body | Easy closing of the paddle | Build the impact pressure point over the thumb
(Set 3): Paddle and forearm move forward on one level | At the point where the ball is struck, press your thumb on the rubber and drive the ball | Hit the ball in front of the body with a slightly closed bat and rise as you meet the ball
(Set 4): The stroke ends with a slightly bent arm above the ball pointing in the direction of the stroke | The paddle goes forward towards the net | Elbow remains stable at the side and in front of the body
Ricardo Walther uses the a Butterfly ALC Blade with Dignics 09c on the forehand and Tenergy 05 on the backhand.
