Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer
Question:
Hi, I am looking at buying a new bat. I am left handed and have an attacking forehand with quite a fast rubber. One area I need to improve upon is being able to topspin a chop. Currently I often get dictated to in rallies because if my opponent chops to my forehand, I tend to have to chop back. I know a lot of it is down to me and how I play the shot, but can you suggest what type of rubber would help me with this please without losing a lot of the speed? Any advice on rubber thickness and blade type that could also possibly help would also be appreciated please. Thanks.
Answer:
This Ask the Experts question was answered by Truong Tu. Truong plays at the Silicon Valley Table Tennis Club in San Jose, CA. Coach Tu’s response is as follows:
For the rubber, Tenergy 05 would be the recommendation as the rubber give you spin without losing the speed. The rubber thickness should be 2.1.
