Retired NHL star Sean Avery rejected a plea deal Monday in Manhattan Criminal Court for hitting a car with his scooter after it blocked a bike lane in Greenwich Village.
Manhattan prosecutors told the former Ranger that if he paid $3,000 in restitution and stayed out of trouble for six months, they’d dismiss his case.
“At the moment that’s respectfully declined,” said Avery’s lawyer, Dmitriy Shakhnevich, as his client stood beside him in a black T-shirt, shorts and moccasin-style tennis shoes.
Avery, 38, was arrested on one count of misdemeanor criminal mischief for allegedly bashing the driver’s side of a car Feb. 23 at E. 8th St. and Broadway.
“If I need to be the poster boy for defending the bike lanes, I will absolutely do that,” the hockey hothead told The Post on his last court date. “We need to be able to just bike in freedom.”
Avery played for the Rangers for roughly half his 10-year NHL career before retiring in 2012. He’s due back in court Sept. 5.
