With all these health risks as well as the general improvement in the quality of life that can come, losing weight is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Whatever we want to believe, there is no magic solution to losing weight. The body burns more fat when it burns more calories than it needs to work through the demands you put into it throughout the day. It’s so simple. So, in order to lose weight, you need to reduce the number of calories as well as increase the amount you burn.
There is a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a weight loss program. They all spend a lot of time explaining what to eat, in what quantities, and at what times or in what combinations. But some of them emphasize the importance of exercise — not only for weight loss, but also for your general health and wellness. Exercise is important when trying to lose weight for several reasons:
The earlier you eat less, the lower your metabolism will be. Exercise helps your metabolism return to an efficient level. Second, as mentioned, exercise burns more calories so you can lose weight faster and stay motivated in your efforts. Third, exercise actually releases endorphins, chemicals that keep your mood high.
Exercise does not mean stress through hours spent in the gym or tiring exercises. In fact, in order for you to stay with it in the long run, exercise should be something you enjoy. Start by increasing your activity level overall. Take the stairs when you can. Park in front of the mall when you go shopping. Take a walk in the park or from your favorite home and bring a dog or friend for company. Take dance or martial arts lessons.
Once you are normally active you will find it easier and more natural to go for regular exercise. What you need to do to get regular health benefits You need to increase your heart rate to a fat-burning level and keep it at least 20 minutes, times or more a week. As far as, if you don’t want to go to the gym, there are other options. Videos and DVDs are now available in all types of exercise. This way you can change your routine when you don’t want to get bored of what you are doing. Try a range of aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, or almost any activity for the convenience of your own home.
If you have physical limitations that keep you away from exercise, you can still find ways to increase your activity level. Water aerobics is the best option for those who have joint problems or limited mobility as it reduces the pressure on your body which provides you weight. But you still get resistance to challenge your muscles from the water. There are also classes and videos available that allow you to exercise in the seat area.
Whatever type of exercise you choose, it’s important to stay motivated and enjoy it. Try to bring the group together in one place and make it a social event. Or get a pedometer, a device that tracks how far behind you are and how many miles you can walk in a week. Compete with your friends or family members and treat the winner with something special (not related to food!). Make some of the exercises you expect, and it will soon become a regular part of your healthy lifestyle.
